HY2 FISH

HY2FISH: Zero Emission Demonstrative Fishing Vessel Powered by a Hybridized system of Hydrogen Fuel Cell and batteries

HY2FISH focuses on the most promising and scalable technologies that are characterized by low capital expenditure (CAPEX), ease of deployment, and adaptability for installation on a wide range of fishing vessels over 12 meters in length. The initiative aims to integrate solutions such as enhanced hydrodynamics, advanced electrical power management systems, optimized low-noise propellers, solar electricity generation, full electric propulsion using hydrogen and batteries, sensing and digitalization technologies, hull appendages and air lubrication systems.

The overarching goal of HY2FISH is to develop procedures and technologies capable of reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 40% compared to conventional vessel designs. When powered entirely by renewable energy sources (e.g., wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric), these solutions have the potential to achieve up to a 100% reduction in GHG emissions.

All proposed systems will be designed as modular, plug-and-play solutions suitable for a wide range of medium- to large-size fishing vessels. They will offer a balance between performance, cost-efficiency (CAPEX and OPEX), and scalability, ensuring their adoption and upscaling beyond the project’s implementation phase.
